The Power of Vulnerability and Connection

A couple months ago, I had a conversation with executive coach and founder of Change Cadet, Dr. Akilah Cadet. When I listened to that conversation, I was left feeling grounded by the range of topics we discussed, and the vulnerability we embraced as two Black women. Two Black women who are also doctors in their respective fields. I point that out not to boast, but to highlight how beautiful it is that we are able to have conversations like the one we had, connect in the way we did/do, and feel genuine excitement when we see each other win.

We came together despite all the ways we are groomed in this society, this world, to be guided by fear of scarcity. We shared intimate parts of ourselves despite all the training we receive in higher education that says there’s only room for one of us.

Our existence, our connection, is an act of resistance.
